Hotmail founder Sabeer Bhatia's Jaxtr launches global sim card

NEW DELHI: Sabeer Bhatia and Yogesh Patel led Jaxtr Inc has launched a global sim card 'Jaxtr SIM' for international travellers.

The pre-paid sim card works on phones ranging from Android, iPhone, Windows and BlackBerry devices.

According to Jaxtr, the sim is meant to allow travellers to make calls at rates cheaper than most current options. "With the Jaxtr SIM, travellers to the United States, Canada, UK and Mexico or anywhere in Europe or Asia can make inexpensive local and international calls/SMS while using their own mobile phones, " the company claims.

"Travellers can start using the phone as soon as they replace the sim in their mobile phones, the company said. In addition to calling, texting and browsing, features such as voicemail, SMS forwarding and voicemail to email are included for no additional charge.

A single card can be used in multiple countries and multiple local numbers are provisioned automatically for each supported country.

Jaxtr users can optionally maintain a permanent number in the country of their choice for a monthly fee. The cards are available from travel agents, at airports and they can also be ordered online.

At the launch of the sim card, Sabeer Bhatia, CEO & Co-Founder, Jaxtr and Co-Founder of Hotmail, said, "International travel for both business and pleasure is on a rapid upswing in India.

However, to date, travelers face the daunting challenge of communicating with their loved ones in a cost-effective manner while they are on the move. Jaxtr is a Global traveller's carrier that works in over 200+ countries.

With our sim, you can stop worrying about high international roaming bills when travelling abroad as we offer the best local and international calling rates in the US, Europe and Latin America to make your international travel hassle-free."
