5 Deadly Helicopters

Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk

This four-bladed, twin-engine, medium-lift utility helicopter is arguably the most popular combat aircraft in the world. It was the focal point of the hit film and book 'Black Hawk Down.' Used extensively in the United States Army, this legendary chopper has also served several armed forces all over the world, including Taiwan's. Even today the demand for Black Hawks is very high by militaries around the world.


 CH-47 Chincook

This twin-engine, tandem rotor heavy-lift helicopter can travel at speeds of up to 315 kmh. Currently used by the United States Army, Japan and the Royal Netherlands Air Force, the unit price of this helicopter is a staggering $35 million. It also happens to be one of the longest serving choppers in modern combat history--it was first used way back in 1962!


 Mil MI-24 Hind

The Mil MI-24 is a large helicopter gunship and attack helicopter that is often used as a transporter as well. Primarily used by the Russian Air Force, the MI series of helicopters is used by several other countries, including India. The Indian Air Force currently has one squadron of MI-25 (Hind D) and MI-35 (Hind E) each. These are the export versions of the MI-24.


 AH-64 Apache

Other than the United States Army, the Israeli, Dutch and Egyptian Air Forces use this four-blade, twin-engine attack helicopter as well.The unit price of this amazing chopper is about $20 million, and it is designed to endure extreme conditions during the day or night! It uses the Target Acquisition and Designation System, Pilot Night Vision System (TADS/PNVS), passive infrared countermeasures, and military-grade GPS to ensure it's always on the money.


 Kamov KA-50 Black Shark

This single-seat Russian attack helicopter is considered by many to be the best combat chopper in the world! It can carry a huge weapon load in its four external hardpoints. Besides, it's known to carry twelve laser-guided Vikhr anti-tank missiles that have a range of 8 km!

Currently, there are 10 KA-50s serving the Russian Air Force, and there are other variants of this aircraft--about 16--also in active service.
